Chain Chomp by DuctileCreations Chain Chomp by DuctileCreations
Finally got back into making more Mario baddies! This time it's Chain Chomp. I'm thinking I would like to make a bunch of these for my house in the future. In all shapes and sizes! Well maybe not all shapes. They have been consistantly spherical throughout the games. But definitely all sizes!

Everything you see on Chain Chomp is duct tape.

You should've put a beware of dog sign or something next to it. ^^

Hehe that's pretty cool, nice work on that Chain Chomp. I always liked those enemies. (Even though they were a bit annoying at times.)

Y'know, I heard that they got the idea for that enemy in SMB3 & SM64 from a tramatic childhood experience Shigeru Miyamoto had, (who's basically the creator of the Mario & Zelda games) where a dog chained by a post jumped at him, and tried to attack him, but was luckily restrained mere inches away from his face.

They're especially annoying in Super Mario Bros. 3.

I did not know that. That reminds me of the story behind Giygas's appearance in Earthbound. Shigesato Itoi, the producer/director, saw something traumatic as a child as well.

Yeah, that explains why Chain Chomps "bark," and behave a bit dog-like. (In fact their Japanese name "Wan Wan" is an onimonopia basically meaning "Bark Bark," or "Bow-Wow.")

Also, there's a neat "easter egg" in SMB3. If you wait over 174 timer seconds with a chain chomp on-screen it's chain will start flashing, and it will break free, and bounce away. (Just be sure to jump over it when it does.)

And yeah, I remember the Giygas thing. It's interesting how the game designers put a bit of their own experiences into the games.

Which I guess explains why the chain chomp got the name Bow Wow in Link's Awakening.

I'm going to have to try that easter egg. It sounds fun.

There's actually quite a few hidden "easter eggs" in SMB3. [link]

I remember how shocked I was the first time I got the white mushroom house, or "treasure ship" to appear on the map screen accidently. lol (Ah, childhood...)

Interesting.

I've never gotten the white mushroom house or treasure ship...looks like it's time to fire up the NES

Really? I got them sometimes as a kid, and I had no clue how they appeared, but I finally learned when I ordered the old Nintendo Power "Strategy Guide" from NP's back issue order form. That was a cool book, it had alot of "easter eggs" like the ones I mentioned and hidden gliches/tricks in the game in it.
(Shame they don't offer back issues from that far back anymore...)

I wish they did offer the old back issues. They would make a killing.

I'm ashamed to say it but I never had a Nintendo as a kid so I never really got to play Mario 3 all that much. By the time it came out on all stars I wasn't really interested in it. At least not as much as Super Mario World
